Vi eSIM Launched for Prepaid Customers
Vodafone Idea (Vi) just started the eSIM service in New Delhi. It’s already working in Maharashtra (including Mumbai) and Goa. Now, people using Vi prepaid in India’s capital can also get this eSIM. Let’s see how to set it up on your phone and why you might want to switch from a regular SIM to an eSIM.

Phones that work with Vi eSIM
- Apple: iPhone XR and newer models
- Samsung: Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy S21, and others
- Google: Pixel 3 and newer models
- Vivo: Vivo X90 Pro
- Motorola: Motorola Razr, Motorola Next Gen Razr, Motorola Edge 40
- Nokia: Nokia G60, Nokia X30

How to set up Vi eSIM for existing customers
- Make sure your email is registered with Vi. If not, send ‘Email Your Email ID’ to 199. Wait 48 hours before starting the eSIM process.
- Send a message with ‘eSIM your registered email id’ to 199.
- You’ll receive a confirmation message. Reply ‘ESIMY’ within 15 minutes to confirm your interest.
- You’ll also receive a message asking for consent over a call.
- Once approved, you’ll get a QR Code on your email. Scan it through your phone settings. For iPhones, go to Mobile Data > Add data plan, for Samsung, go to Connections > SIM Card Manager > Add Mobile Plan, Find activation steps for other devices here. The QR code is valid for one device for 7 days.
- You can rename the data plan label if you want. Otherwise, proceed.
- Choose the default line (Primary/Secondary) for this number and tap Done.
That’s it! Your eSIM will be active within 30 minutes.
For new customers:
- Visit the nearest Vi store and apply for a new prepaid eSIM.
- Provide a copy of your Aadhaar Card or another ID proof when asked.
