Xiaomi, a big tech company from China known for its cheap smartphones and gadgets, has stepped into the electric car market with its first car, the SU7. This car is aimed to compete in China’s crowded electric vehicle market by offering good specs and advanced technology at a low price.
Let’s talk about what makes the Xiaomi SU7 special.

Xiaomi SU7 – Hardware and Software Features
The SU7 has drawn comparisons to sports cars like McLaren, Tesla Model 3, and Porsche Taycan S due to its sleek design. Despite being similar in size to regular cars, it’s quite unique.
Under the hood, it’s powerful with two motor options that can give you up to 986 horsepower, making it really fast. The Founder’s Edition can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 1.98 seconds! Even the regular Max variant is impressive, reaching 0-100 kmph in 2.78 seconds with a top speed of 265 kmph.

Battery options range from a decent 73.6 kWh pack to a massive 150 kWh pack next year, promising a range of up to 1,200 km on a single charge. Plus, with Xiaomi’s advanced charging tech, you can get 350-510 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.

Inside, the SU7 is decked out with a large 16.1-inch 3K central display and a 7.1-inch digital instrument cluster powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8295 chip. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay, iPad connectivity, and Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem for easy integration with other Xiaomi devices.
Xiaomi SU7 Comparison with Tesla Model 3
The SU7 competes directly with Tesla’s Model 3. Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun claims that in over 90% of specs, the SU7 is better than the Model 3, except for a few areas where Tesla still holds the edge. The SU7 also boasts a longer range compared to the Model 3.

But the big difference is the price. While the Model 3 starts at around $34,000 in China, the SU7 starts at around $30,000, which is a lower price even though Xiaomi admits they’re initially selling at a loss.
Resemblance to Apple’s Project Titan
The SU7 gives us a glimpse of what Apple’s rumored car project could have been like. With its seamless integration of hardware and software and easy device connectivity, it’s similar to what Apple might have aimed for. Xiaomi’s approach highlights the missed opportunity for Apple in the car market.
Tough Competition in China
The SU7 enters a fiercely competitive market in China’s electric vehicle industry. Sales have slowed down recently, leading to price wars among manufacturers. Some smaller companies have even gone bankrupt. Xiaomi is ready to take losses initially just to compete in this tough market.
Xiaomi SU7 International Launch
For now, the SU7 is only available in China, but Xiaomi has global ambitions. They’ve showcased the car internationally, hinting at a future global launch. With its competitive pricing, it could pose a serious challenge to established players like Tesla when it goes global.
In summary, Xiaomi’s entry into the electric car market with the SU7 is a bold move. With its combination of advanced features and aggressive pricing, it’s set to shake up the industry, not just in China but potentially worldwide.
